A short ditty on Autumn Watch

With fur and feathers and lots of stags
Cormorants and seals –but sadly no shags
AutumnWatch is back with its usual crescendo
Of excitable Bill and Odd innuendo

We live in hope that with some luck
Simon will show us his prize “Super Buck”

And all the men are thrilled to bits
To get a sight of Kate Humble’s ……. mitts!

Crab Apple Jelly recipe (with or without rose hips or sloes)

I appear to be getting lots of hits on this stunning blog by people in search of a recipe. So here it is:

Pick several pounds of crab apples.
Rose hips and/or sloes (a handful or two is ideal)

Cover with water and boil until all the fruit collapses. Mash down and if you feel more goodness is still held in the fruit then add some more water to get the most from the fruit.
Squeeze through a sieve.
Pour resultant liquid into a jelly bag over a large basin. Leave to drip through overnight. DO NOT SQUEEZE THE BAG.
Measure out the resultant liquid and for every pint of liquid add 1 pound sugar.
Bring to the boil and boil until a set has been achieved.
Pour into pre-heated jars.
And in answer to the query on “How do you know when it’s set?” – Pour a little on to a saucer and allow to cool (putting it in the freezer for about 2 minutes cools it fairly quickly) – run a finger through the liquid and if it parts and stays parted and ‘crinkles up’ then it is set – ie it behaves like a set jelly!

That’s it. If you want to add a bit of extra ‘spice’ add a handful of fresh rosemary when boiling up the fruit.
When you add the sugar also add a pint of cider or white wine vinegar.
Boil as above.
Add a small sprig of fresh rosemary to each jar.

Sat Nav options – should I invest?

I am thinking of upgrading from Major Dickie’s map reading efforts and investing in one of those Sat Nav thingies.
I am hoping the dulcet tones of the Togmeister will be an improvement. But I am concerned

1) Is he going to dither? – I can’t be coping with last minute instructions – I have enough problems with The Major doing that – so to replace him with another ditherer is not going to make me a happy bunny.

2) Will he give clear instructions at important junctions or make last minute announcements to turn left just as I shoot pass an important junction in the fast lane. (A particularly popular move by The Major!)

3) Or even worse just forget altogether because he’s too busy telling an important anecdote?

4) Is he going to get bored and give up just when intricate information is needed at the end of a long journey?

These points need clarifying before I make a decision.

Don Warrington

How sad to see him leave Strictly come dancing tonight.  I didn’t think he deserved to go – there were at least 3 other celebs who should have been out before him!

99 not out!

Despite Tansy’s failure to get an announcement on that Radio Show she sometimes writes to Lord Moor Common had a good day.
He downed his champagne like a seasoned campaigner and took to the Nintendo Mind Gym his offspring presented him – with verve and enthusiasm. Bravo!
His offspring then celebrated in customary fashion by going out with their spouses – without the good Lord!

The Togs sent messages of cheer which he much enjoyed reading! Here’s to the next year!

Lord Moor Common is 99 today!

Hoorah! Today is the 99th Birthday of Tansy’s Dad – Lord Moor Common.

Lord Moor Common is celebrating having clung to the wreckage for another year – by doing his customary 10 minutes on his exercise bike, to be followed by tackling a fiendish Sudoku!

Over the last year Lord Moor Common has been taking a keen interest in Tansy’s emails to you Sir – well he asked about them once!

After reading a few – His verdict made me blush with pride:

“Absolute Drivel Old Girl!”

I think I would have preferred less of the “Old Girl”!

Anyway, His offspring: Tansy, William and James – with their spouses – will all be at the Moor Common Mansion later today to celebrate with him as he embarks on his 100th year!

BBC Breakfast – extinguished street light report – well done!

BBC Breakfast has surpassed itself this morning!
Today we have the roving reporter standing out in the gloom showing us what an extinguished street light looks like.
All part of their report on Councils turning off lights to save money.
Well done BBC – I am now ‘enlightened’!
