Wow! We may not be in a heat wave for our Winter Sun break but the Major came up trumps last night (lucky me!) and we went to The Victoria at Holkham for dinner.
Nothing like wonderful food to bring out the best in me. It really restored my faith in eating out, which, dear reader, has been rather dashed of late! If only we lived nearer this delightful hostelry!
We were brought a lovely ‘amuse-bouche’ to begin. Goats’ cheese with a beetroot jelly – devine.
We shared a starter of pigeon breast salad with mushrooms and beans which was out of this world.
I followed this up with halibut and fennel and The Major had venison. Both excellent.
We then fell on the puddings menu. The Major enjoyed his tarte tatin, and I demolished a Crème Brulee.
Definitely a place to visit.
The staff were lovely and if hadn’t been for the smoochie couple hogging the sofas by the fireplace we would probably have settled in for coffee at the end of the meal – as it was the Public Displays of Affection were too much to bear and we bailed out and went back to our cottage.
